Rules

• This qualification consists of 30 modules. Students should note that throughout their studies, they will be required to have access to a computer or laptop, printer, and the internet.

Purpose Statement

The Bachelor of Arts program aims to:

• Familiarize learners with the content and basic theories across various disciplines in the humanities and social sciences at basic and intermediate levels.
• Provide a deeper understanding of one or more of these disciplines at the exit level (level 6).
• Enable learners to contextualize new knowledge and employ suitable methods to resolve problems.
• Equip learners with essential scholarly and intellectual competencies, including critical questioning of the assumptions of limited theories and authorities.
• Foster an understanding of elementary research methods across disciplines.
• Enhance learners' abilities to communicate their opinions coherently in both written and oral formats.
• Prepare learners for further studies while ensuring a well-rounded education that opens pathways to various professions vital for societal welfare.
• Cultivate critical, creative, and lateral thinking among learners.
• Encourage lifelong learning and an understanding of the principles of critical citizenship.

This qualification will be presented through both online and distance learning modes.

Who Can Register?

• New Applicants and Unisa Students: Registration is permitted only after receiving and accepting an offer of placement from Unisa. The institution reserves the right to cancel registrations if admissions were not correctly processed.
• Re-registering Students: May register for the 2026 academic year once the registration period opens. If pursuing a new qualification, applicants must reapply online during the designated application period.

Module Selection Guidelines

To graduate, students must accumulate a specific number of NQF level credits within a designated timeframe.

• Co-requisite: If Module A is co-requisite with Module B, students must register for both simultaneously unless Module B's registration is canceled.
• Pre-requisite: Students must complete Module A before registering for Module B.

Students are restricted from registering for more than the maximum number of credits/modules per academic year (120 credits) or semester (60 credits). Non-degree modules also contribute toward this cap.

• Group B: Fundamentals - Select 2 Modules

  • AFL1501 - Language Through an African Lens
  • ENG1503 - Academic Language and Literacy in English
